A well-deserved community hero, Dennis Simmons, takes a leap of faith to mend the gaps in Fort Greene. He provides for children who don’t have households out of his pocket. Dennis views life from a larger picture with no regrets because fear does not fuel life or longevity. He hopes the younger generation cherishes time and upholds respect more. Aside from these hopes, he gives back to his community by providing mentoring and giving a hand to his loved ones. He does not wait for resources to be funded for the needy but rather assists people with his program Kids In Crossfire. Dennis is also a party promoter and artist that enjoys outside activities such as music, traveling, and helping out other coaches. Children’s smiles keep him moving, and he recognizes kindness is what will fasten the gaps between people together, something he has lovingly taught and continues to teach his beautiful daughter, Zaniyah, whom he says is the best part of him. 

Sparking his community service would be his grandmother. His grandmother urged him to be “the change” and correct injustices. He bestows these lessons onto children through his program Kids In Crossfire as well as coaching basketball and taking on mentorship initiatives. Being a basketball coach allowed him to eradicate the inequality between sexes as he allowed girls on his boys’ basketball team. Dennis observed that for children to grow and learn, issues need to be taken into account by parents and implement a solution accordingly.

Dennis strives to “keep going straight.” He believes “You’re gonna miss a lot of stuff that was in front of you” if you’re going to look behind yourself 100 times. As long as he has air in his lungs, he’s not done yet. Fearing fear is never going to let people live life to the fullest.

Dennis Simmons, un merecido héroe de la comunidad, da un salto de fe para reparar las brechas en Fort Greene. Él provee para niños que no tienen hogares de su bolsillo. Dennis mira la vida desde un panorama más amplio, sin arrepentimientos, porque el miedo no alimenta la vida ni la longevidad. Espera que la generación joven aprecie el tiempo y defienda más el respeto. Aparte de estas esperanzas, ayuda a su comunidad como mentor y apoyando a sus seres queridos.
