“Never think you’re the only thing in the world. Don’t walk away knowing there’s something you can do to help.” These are the words of our very own Community Hero, Mrs. Priscilla Douglas. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 15th, 1941 to parents Gettys and Alberta White. Mrs. Douglas’ grandmother brought her to NYC at age 10, where she attended Public School 67 until 1954, and her influence to be active in the community began.

In her time, Mrs. Douglas served on many organizations and boards such as Project Teen, the NFFC at Cumberland Hospital, Brooklyn Hospital, Woodhull Hospital, Secretary on the board at Church, and the Walt Whitman Community Board with her honorable mention hero Mr. Carter. Mrs. Douglas loves people, which shows in her community service. She loves ensuring people have a place to stay and food in their mouths. She also greatly influenced her children’s friends, who would call her “mom.” When asked how she felt about being considered a hero, Mrs. Douglas stated, “I don’t feel like a hero. I am just a person that is compassionate about the well-being of others, and it doesn’t hurt to help somebody. Help the community and not just help yourself. Anytime I could help, I would go to Councilman Hakeem Jeffreys and help.” 

“We are not here to just sit and look at each other. It may be a day when you need help. Life is given to us freely.” – Priscilla Douglas.

Priscilla Douglas. Nació en Cleveland, Ohio, el 31 de julio de 1940, sus padres eran Getis y Alberta White. La abuela de la señora Douglas la trajo a NYC a los 10 años, donde asistió a la Escuela Pública 67 hasta 1954, y comenzó su activismo en la comunidad.
