CURRENTLY ORGANIZING IN FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN – GET INVOLVED!

Fort Greene

Shaquana Boykin

Shaquana Boykin has been a resident of Fort Greene, Brooklyn, New York since 2006 and is currently the Female District Leader of Assembly District 57 Kings County Democratic Committee. Not only does she play a big role in supporting and working in the community, she is also the guardian to her two cousins (Lyric and Lovest). Shaquana first got involved in volunteering as a Garden Apprentice at Brooklyn Botanic Garden at age 14. Brooklyn Botanic Garden opened her mind to new things. In high school, a friend named Lynn told her to work at ACORN, that’s where her passion for caring for plants turned into caring for people.

After completing several AmeriCorps programs, she was nominated to be National Leader with Opportunity Youth United because of her service as a Public Ally. To reshape the communities and world, Shaquana believes we all have a part in this.

Her full-time job is working at Brooklyn Movement Center as a Food Sovereignty Organizer with Central Brooklyn Food Coop and she works part-time for Forum for Youth Investment as a Digital Fellow using youth narratives and data to change policy. In her spare time, she is the Chair of Programming at Fort Greene Park Conservancy, member of Friends of Commodore Barry Park, Natural Leader on the Advisory Council with Children & Nature Network, member of Better Bikeshare of NYC working on equity in black and brown communities and safe streets.

People Power will change our communities, Shaquana would love for people to join in with helping the community be a viable place to live and thrive. Whether you’re a district leader or not, people’s power starts and ends with us stepping up and working together.
